You’ve seen the square barcodes showing up all over the place lately. They’re everywhere – on product packaging, at trade shows, on marketing brochures and storefront windows. These barcodes are here to stay…and they’re going to change the way your offline marketing intersects with your online marketing!
QR codes allow people to interact with your offline ad or product as soon as it catches their attention. These codes are easy to create and easy to scan; however, the content you provide on the landing page is where the big opportunity comes in. What you offer once they’ve scanned is critical because by using a QR code, you’ve set the expectation that their is something more beyond the ad. If your QR code just takes a potential client or customer to your
web home page, you are pretty much throwing away an opportunity to form a greater connection. Keep in mind, too, QR code scans are highly trackable – as long as coded correctly, you can learn a vast amount about your customers!
The secret to a successful QR code is to have the code lead to
a specific landing page that continues the experience…whatever the experience was that led the user there in the first place. So, being a video production company, we’re going to give you a few great applications of video for QR code use:
1. Storefront Window: How about a short personal introduction from the store owner/manager – “Welcome to my shop, please browse around and let us know if there’s anything we can do to help.”? Or, a restaurant – meet the owner/executive chef and personally state “Enjoy your meal.” Managers, when in store, generally make it a point to create a personal bond with customers – why not have the opportunity to do that with every one that walks in the door? Place a QR code on the entry door to the store and send potential customers to a landing page containing this personal message.
2. Product Packaging: People are googling “How-To” videos by the second – why not send your customer, or potential customer via a QR code to a landing page containing your own “How-To” video using your product? For some products, this may mean showing the ease of use; for others, it may be showing the product in action. QR codes can also be used inside the the package on the product manual for more intricate products or for care & handling instructions.
3. Business Cards: For a forward thinking business card, create a short video of yourself – giving a brief description of you and/or your company. Place the QR code on the front or back of the business card and send to a landing page containing a personal video. Even with all the social media networking today, face-to-face introductions are necessary – with online video, you can create the ultimate hybrid.
4. Marketing Brochures: Statistics are showing that people would rather watch a video than read an extensive amount of text on a website…so, we have to assume the same goes for
wordy marketing brochures. Provide a QR code on your marketing brochure or rack card that leads a potential customer to a landing page that contains a company overview video, offering them a little more insight than what may have been included in the brochure. It’s sure to make your company look up-to-date!
QR landing pages make it possible for you to turn potential customers offline experiences into an online experience. Don’t miss this opportunity! Create memorable and appropriate content for your landing pages and track everything. Your customers can learn more about you, while you, in turn, can learn more about
them!
